I’ve got a lot of theories, some of which I think are probably true, some that could possibly be true, and some that will never be true but would still be cool anyway. This is one that I’m not sure about:
What if they only showed the back of the statue because…we would recognize the face if they showed the front? That’s right; what if the figure depicted in this statue is someone we already know? Richard Alpert seems like a likely choice, he appears to be egyptian (or otherwise middle-eastern) anyway. Does this statue mean that the people who built the statue were influenced by the ancient egyptians or that ancient egyptians were influenced by people on the island? Or could the face on this statue even be that of one of our beloved castaways? Desmond would fit nicely (he is special, after all).

We will probably never know, but it would be awesome.
